Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
