Each time a significant honors show nears, one notices a demand for introducing of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
